The Calergi Residence, which is situated in Atsipopoulo is only a short distance to Rethymno’s main landmarks. Rethymno maintains one of the best preserved old towns in Crete, with buildings that date to the 16th century. The Venetian castle of Fortetza is one of the largest standing castles in Crete. Landmarks worth seeing are the Neratze mosque, the Great Gate, the Rimmondi square, and the Venetian Loggia. Atsipopoulo also provides a central location for excursions around Crete.
